In Nagaland, we delved into the diverse and vibrant culinary world of this North-eastern gem. With a focus on traditional Naga food culture, we explored the rich tapestry of flavours rooted in indigenous seeds, stems, leaves, and flowers. In this journey, we rediscovered age-old recipes and fostered new culinary experiences that aimed at reinventing the lost recipes, celebrating Nagaland's biodiversity, and promoting food sovereignty.

Day 1: Lidang's Warm Welcome

Lidang and her parents graciously hosted us, offering a delightful lunch that seamlessly transitioned into an inviting overnight stay. Laughter, homemade dishes, and genuine hospitality set the tone for an unforgettable experience.

 

Day 2: Mon-Aoleng Festival Immersion

The Mon-Aoleng Festival unfolded as a captivating journey into the vibrant tapestry of Mon culture. This unique experience allowed us to witness and appreciate the rich traditions shaping the identity of the Mon community. Engaging in this time-honoured celebration provided profound insights into the intricate connection between the community and nature.

 

 

 

Day 3: Chenwetnyu's Serene Mornings

Waking up to the breath-taking scenery of Chenwetnyu, each morning was a serene experience. Engaging with the local community and learning about their sustainable way of life created indelible memories. This immersive encounter not only allowed us to appreciate the simplicity of rural living but also served as a profound lesson in the delicate balance between humanity and the natural world.

 

Day 4: Culinary Delights with Vanshika, Lidang, and Athan

Cooking with Vanshika, Lidang, and Athan transformed into an extraordinary culinary journey. Filled with laughter, shared stories, and the aromatic symphony of delicious ingredients, this experience deepened our connection to Naga cuisine and the warmth of shared meals.

 

 

Day 5: Naga Potluck at Longchen Homestay

Organizing a potluck with Naga food bloggers and chefs at Longchen Homestay marked a celebration of culinary diversity.

 

Day 6: Departing Nagaland with a Taste of Tradition

Our research in the Kohima/Dzuleke area expanded our understanding of regional flavours, techniques, and cultural nuances, concluding our immersive journey in Nagaland.
